J&U Opposition and International Observe the Moon Night

Post by weixing »

Hi,
Anyone interested to have a public observation session on this coming Jupiter's Opposition on 18 Sep 2010?? May be a sidewalk style at Marina Barrage?? I can invite the NPark people to come over, so that they will have some idea on Astronomy observation.

Have a nice day.

I wouldn't mind,...but 21st Sept is Tuesday. Saturday is good for me though. But not sure getting to there will be slow as F1 SGP is round the corner and some roads may be closed.
But inviting the NPark's people is a great idea. Hope a rep can make it.

Hi,
Oh... look at the wrong calendar and forget about F1... [smilie=bad-atmosphere.gif]

Let me see... F1 is 21 Sep to 26 Sep, they usually only block the road just days before the F1 race, right?? So may be 18 Sep 2010(Saturday) will be OK??

Look at the Jupiter's Moon forecast on Saturday, September 18, 2010:
12:44 UT (20:44 SGT), Europa's shadow begins to cross Jupiter.
12:56 UT (20:56 SGT), Europa begins transit of Jupiter.
15:26 UT (23:26 SGT), Europa's shadow leaves Jupiter's disk.
15:34 UT (23:34 SGT), Europa ends transit of Jupiter.

Seem 18 Sep 2010 is a good date... can see Europa transit Jupiter.

Have a nice day.

PS: Hope I didn't get the date/data wrong again. [smilie=embarrassed.gif] [smilie=beg.gif]

Weixing, good idea, count me in. Anyway, F1 don't close ECP and Marina South. Oh, please change subject date for the event.

I should be good for this! Would be glad to have a meet up with more of those here!

Yah roads shouldn't be closed though maybe those being used as Race route specific. I know for sure the 23-26 will be closed all over for speed test and track test,..then free practice and qualifying and of course raceday. Just that with the equipment all up, traffic is diverted though shouldn't effect where we are obbing!

Just a heads up in case someone runs late due to traffic woes!
If I'm there I'll grab and go with my 80ED and Voyager alt az mount.

ah..the difference when you have transport :)
BTW, after F1 would be better. Days before it they will be testing the circuit lighting, so i think it will be brighter than usual at the skyline.

It will be extremely bright and probably unsuitable for anything other than venus/lunar observation. Not sure how's their testing schedule but 18 Sep is very near and they usually do not switch off at night till very late on quite a couple of nights, from what I have seen the past 2 years.
(a couple of days is 24/7). Come nearer the date I can check for you guys as I'm living near the track. :)

Dont worry, Mars and Saturn will also be fairly visible too and in the vicinity of Venus forming a triangle. [smilie=cool.gif]
