Omg orly, I haven't seen a double transit in all my life of observation. Thank you for the chance to see it in picture at least!

Is it ok if I re-share that picture in the Seattle astronomy forums?

Thanks to all who came last night - our first sidewalk at Toa Payoh in 2013. Had a great time catching up with old friends and making new ones!

Sky was clear enough to wow the public with views of Jupiter, Pleiades, Orion Nebula and Sirius.

Highlight of the session was the special appearance of the following telescope for the first time in Toa Payoh. Big thanks to its owner for sharing his premium scope views with the public!

Everything also must binoview. :P

Spectacular view of Jupiter through this 4" premium scope. Very contrasty for a 4" apo refractor. GRS can be seen cleanly. Had a quick informal non-scientific shootout with my Mak127. Pretty happy with slightly inferior views of Jupiter through the Mak considering the huge retail price difference between this 2 scopes. :) I guess the stage is set for a certain 6" ED APO vs this 4" APO since both are very roughly about the same price. Glad to finally meet one of my Twitter followers in person. She saw Jupiter for the first time. Later from her tweet, I suddenly realised the coincidental significance of last night's sidewalk for her. Yesterday was the exact same day 403 years ago when a human being first spotted Jupiter and its moons through a telescope - 7 January! What a special way to remember one's first view of Jupiter through a telescope.

More mirrors and lens hitting our shores soon. So much fun shootouts but so little time. [smilie=cheer.gif]

Thanks to all who came for last night's sidewalk with or without scopes. After the heavy afternoon downpour, sky was clear enough and good enough for observing Jupiter, M45, Orion Nebula, Sirius, Castor, Hyades. Quite interesting to see M45 through Dave's 80mm when the sky is still blue!

Highlight of the session is the special appearance of the 5" dob. Here are some pics:

To prevent stray light from hitting the mirrors (especially the secondary in this case) which will decrease the contrast of the objects viewed.
