Summer Milky Way at Taichung, Taiwan

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Hi Robin, thanks a lot for your detailed reply!

I hope to do some observing and wide-field photography in Taiwan one day at one of the mountain-top sites you mentioned. You must have had great experiences there! You're definitely Singastro's expert on astro in Taiwan.

Thanks Remus! I wish I had a full frame camera that night. Anyway, I should be grateful since other than the camera body (550D), all the other equipment were borrowed from the amateurs namely the Takahashi TS90 mount and Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8. [smilie=good-luck.gif]

You're welcomed. I am far from being an expert since I just went to two sites only. The images I took at He Huan Mountain are still yelling at me for not being processed. :mryellow: I am looking forward to joining the star party this coming October at 翠峰. Anybody joining too?
Clear skies,
Robin.

This was the setup I “used”. My original setup was just a 550D on the mount. On the second night, I came up with the idea of firing two cameras simultaneously but the cloud didn't like the idea. [smilie=depressed.gif]

Lots of Takahashi that night.

During the second night which was cloudy and drizzling, we decided to have a BBQ party. Lots of sausages, eggs, coffee, tea and 四神汤。 [smilie=good-luck.gif]

Wonderfully clear skies Robin! I was there as part of my tour 2 years back but unfortunately, the sky was cloudy all the time! Wrong timing or someone must have bought a big new scope then! :)

Haha~ Spring and early summer are generally the worst time. It rains and the cloud never disappears.

Hi Robin, thanks for the report and photos. Very nice! Hope to visit Taiwan again for astro leisure and not for business in the future. :) Lucky I can still understand most traditional Chinese characters thanks to KTV and reading song lyrics that came with cassette tapes. :)
