Solar System objects

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Hi Alvin
Nice pic.Well concerning the sun......we still
have a continously spotted sun......and I am
still waiting for the first SPOTLESS SUN to
appear. Then we can be totally sure that
this cycle is coming to an end.

A long time since I last imaged the sun. Here's today's sun in white light.

I recently sold my tracking mount. But I found out that I could still get a reasonable image by letting the object drift across the field of view. Free and easy. Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOoRUmN ... e=youtu.be

Equipment used:
1. William Optics Zenithstar 66SD
2. Baader White Light solar filter
3. Takahashi 0.8x reducer/flattener
4. ASI120MC
5. DSV-M mount on Berlebach 112 tripod

Here's a cleaner version
Painstakingly adjusted exposure for each frame and removed the cloudy bit

Nice work Alvin,

i just started to do solar imaging, below is my 2nd attempt on 17 Apr 2016 with PST - DS, not able to get a good focus with my Canon 500D with 2X Barlow, had cut down the length of nose piece and hope to try again tomorrow, meanwhile, will like to consult you how normally people use web cam to do a full sun disk ? i read some use drifting method, and some do mosaic, is there other method which is also quite effective such as stacking a few pics together taking reference from a say sun-spot ? Thanks
