A Veil, an Eagle, and the Paw of a Celestial Cat

Post by ivan »

Hi everyone,

I'ld like to share some of my shots from the last Aug Mersing trip. I only recently got to process my images, so I'm only posting them now. It's only my second time imaging from dark skies, and I must say that it was a very memorable (and poisonous!) experience. Although I did experience quite a bit of issues (including differential flexure, which is evident in my images), I'm still pretty happy with the results so far.

Here's the Eastern Veil Nebula in Cygnus, with 50 minutes of cumulative exposure;

The Eagle Nebula in Serpens, with 55 minutes of cumulative exposure;

And the Cat's Paw Nebula in Scorpius, with 60 minutes of cumulative exposure.

All data was acquired through a GSO 8" f/4 imaging newt and iOptron ZEQ25. Sub lengths range from 3 minutes to 5 minutes, guided with the orion 50mm mini. Modded DSLR at prime focus with Baader MPCC Mk III. Stacked and processed with PixInsight.

Excellent images, Ivan! Thanks for sharing.

The Veil is one of my favourite DSOs. In the eyepiece it looks like mysterious ribbons of fire.
