C2014/Q2 Lovejoy Comet from Mersing

Post by rcj »

Having just arrived back into SG from this morning's expedition to Mersing (yes in December's rainy weather! Please see JW's report on the trip in Events section), here is a lucky shot of a very promising comet C2014/Q2 (Lovejoy) captured early this morning. 0404UT (21 December). The comet was very easily seen through binoculars of finderscope, and through a small telescope, looked like a globular cluster but very faint tail. This shot was taken when it was at an altitude of 38 degrees, and amidst heavy passing clouds.

Nice shot. Looks like a "head strong" comet [smilie=good-job.gif]

Very nice capture Remus. Went Mersing this time of the year? You ARE feeling lucky but glad it paid off :)

Great shot, Remus! That can be the official photo for the Comet Party.

Thanks Kochu, Richard, and Gavin!

Below is a collaborative effort with Ivan in combining the previous luminance CCD-based data of the comet with Ivan's DSLR colour data, both sets captured during last Mersing trip.
