Window Astrophotography 2019

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Window Astrophotography 2019

Post by ivan »

2019 has been a rather productive year for imaging, with several streaks of clear nights. I received my 3nm narrowband filters about 2 weeks ago, which I had to wait about 3 months as I wanted it fabricated to work at fast focal ratios down to f/3 (due to the bandpass shift at highly oblique incident angles). Thankfully, that wasn't enough to attract clouds, so I could try them out within a couple of days, and I really like the results.

The images here were shot from my home window at Toa Payoh, and are almost exclusively narrowband (except for the horsehead which was a HaRGB composite). All narrowband subs were 15 minutes, while RGB was 90 seconds each. Imaging FL was 585mm.

Image acquisition via Cloudmakers Astroimager, image integration via AstroPixelProcessor, processing via PixInsight.

I may add more data in time to come for some of these objects, but I need sleep for now [smilie=dreaming.gif]

1. Carina Nebula (SHO Palette) - 3h 45 min total integration
Image

2. Tarantula Nebula (HOO Palette) - 3h 30 min total integration
Image

3. Running Chicken Nebula (SHO Palette) - 7h 15 min total integration
Image

And a bonus crop of the Bok Globules:

4. Horsehead Nebula (HaRGB) - Approx. 4h total integration

5. Vela Supernova Remnant (HOO Palette) - 5h total integration

And of course, mandatory equipment shot:

Thanks for looking!

I've managed to add a couple more hours of OIII and SII data on the Running Chicken, totalling 9.3 hours so far. I've also handled the stars a little more carefully in the processing this round:

There is a little-known planetary nebula near IC2944, which I happened to notice while processing the images. It is designated PK 294-0.1, and lies about 5 arcmin NE of IC2944.

Haha, don't think I'm deserving of that title, but thanks Kochu!
