My first attempt

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

My first attempt

Post by akdwivedi »

I have been using Skywatcher Az gti mostly in alt az mount.. recently I acquired a wedge, counterweight shaft and weight, and eqmod cable to see how does it work. After a couple of tries, I am now getting familiar with Polar alignment, image capture, guiding etc.

Equipment:
Scope: Svbony sv48 achromat with 0.8x reducer (404mm)
Mount: Skywatcher az gti in equatorial config with eqmod cable.
Camera: Canon EOS RP unmodified
Guide: svbony 30mm f/4 with ASI462mc with IR pass filter.
Image Management - asi air pro.
All Sky Polar alignment - perfect within 0.40"

Yesterday, the skies were much clearer and guiding was near perfect. I think the best I could ever get with mount of az gti class. I took some pics at 120secs, 180 secs, 300 secs and just to try 600secs (why not when mount was guiding at 0.5"). The last two pics are 300secs and 600secs screenshots from my ipad, unprocessed.

Looks good, but wonder why the contrast is so high since it's straight from the camera.

I am not an astro-photographer but your exposure timing is too long, I think. The central details are all gone. Cut it down to bring out more details in there. The photo should look better. Cheers
