Desaru Orion Nebula

Post by Meng Lee »

Hi all,

Takem at the desau trip with autoguider not working or rather the mount has too much backlash. Luckily can salvage this image.

EQ-3, Canon 350D, 35sec sub.

Hi,
Hmm... look very nice... especially the details in the trapezium area. :D :D Any tip on how to preserve that area from saturation??

Anyway, the Running Man Nebula really have the look and feel of those logo for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games... hee hee

Have a nice day.

Hi,

Its ironical that the pic is highly underexposed, so the core region is unsaturated in the 12 bit RAW range. Then stacking a large number of images (around 80), the signal of the outer nebula region is high enough so that the Highlights function of Photoshop can bring it out, so I have the outer regions and central core both in control.

Just wondering why is there a tiny 'bud' next to a lot of stars in the picture? They look like multiple binaries...

Hi all, thanks for looking.

Nice observation Andrew. Its due to poor matching in the stacking due to small play in the T-ring resulting in the focal plane not flat. I cropped quite a bit of the image to remove those parts.

ML mentioned that autoguiding was not very good and mount had severe backlash.... bud-like stars result from slight displacement.

Hehe, next time GPD2 with SS2K shall be the travelling photographic mount. This is the consequence of skimping on the mount quality, hehe.
