CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
Morning of Dec. 03 was quite clear and I managed to image comet Holmes again. Last time I imaged this comet was Nov. 04, so now I can compare how the comet has changed over a month. Below are the picture of the comet on Dec. 03 and a picture showing the change over the past month. See how big the comet is now.
Pictures are taken with my Nikon D50, no tracking, multiple shots stacked to reduce noise.
great shots!
now i know where it's. s&t chart not quite accurate leh... or may be my star hopping skill (on a GEM) is just too poor... i keep looking E & W from mirfak and wonder where it is...
now the cloud has come in... sniff...
Yesterday I did see it with naked eye. But averted vision was needed. the total magnitude of the comet is still around 3 but the surface brightness is quite low already.
So far I havent found a place in NTU which is free of stray light. Normally I observe at a football court, which is quite OK after 10pm. But light from nearby hostels are still a bit annoying.
Understand , during its appearance in 1870 s , the comet brightened for a second time , 75 days after the first brightening. So some astronomers think that the comet might brighten again by end Dec.
