Random Dots: First try with DSS

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Random Dots: First try with DSS

Post by cloud_cover »

Took some pics yesterday night to take advantage of the good weather :)
D700, 50mm f1.8 AF-D, mounted on cheapie camera tripod, no tracking, naturally.
Also first try with DSS today! Please advise on how to improve :)

50-ish subs at 5s exposure, ISO 3200 f/8
(Multiple edits as trying to get Picasa to resize)

I took the same shot but with better results. Check out the previous thread on faint milky way in singapore in astrophotog for more details.

Chris: Settings? :)
Looks like your FOV was much wider than mine (using 50mm prime) so you managed to get the darker parts of the sky as well as the milky way.
Chould have pushed to show the milky way glow but thought the black background looked less "processed" :)

DSS is not designed to bring out nebulosity nor post-process images. Thus, the random dots.

I stacked 20 20 sec shots, ISO 640 (you don't wanna take in the light pollution).

Why not send me a raw of the stacked image to y05hci145@gmail.com, so I an take a look at it?
