Wanna make a scope? Or better still, grind a mirror yourself. Or, you have some good tips in making a really useful accessory? This is the place to show what your hands can do...
I have just finished my another project... Homemade TMB 80. I use the original OTA from Vixen A80SS (about US$150 in Japan excluding red-dot finder and flip-mirror). It is as short as 11 inch.
When looking through the scope, stars are not as white as the tube color. So, I wanted to change the lens. The following photo shows the scope with the lens cell removed.
I needed to make an adapter to couple the TMB lens cell to the Vixen tube. So, I took a close look at the Vixen lens cell. The Vixen lens cell has an inside diameter of 80 mm and an outside diameter of 90 mm.
The next step is to make a M85x1 female thread in the Vixen lens cell. One of my friends kindly did it for me. It is the most critical part of this project because I need to make sure that the lens cell axis coincides with the thread axis in order to prevent miscollimation.
Then, the Vixen A80SS tube was coupled to the TMB 80 lens cell. The length of the shortened tube is 13 inch. Note that the TMB lens cell comes with a TMB logo as seen at the tube side.
This photo concludes my post. I would like to thank Liu Ming for valuable suggestions and for making me have more confidence to finish this project. This project costs about US$800 BTW, the microstar mount is from KingKong and the diagonal is from rlow
