Foam for telescope case

Wanna make a scope? Or better still, grind a mirror yourself. Or, you have some good tips in making a really useful accessory? This is the place to show what your hands can do...

Foam for telescope case

Post by tphilip »

Hi,

Does anyone know where to get large blocks of high density foam for use in a telescope case? I have a large travel case and I'd like to cut some foam to shape to hold my scope in it. I don't want pluck foam or stuff which will outgas. Big fat sheets which I can glue together to form a large block would also work.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Tim.

Hi,

Somebody suggested yoga foam mats. I have not tried it but am going to explore the possibility.

Pluck foams seemed to be good but any idea where to get these separately, ie not with casings.

Hi,

That's great. I will like to have some. (Enough to pack a C8 scope). How can I collect from you? Thanks a lot.

The size of my case is 75cm x 25cm x 25cm. What would be ideal is 5 sheets of 5cm thick foam which is 75cm x 25cm. Then I can cut and laminate the sheets to suit. Anyone have any idea where I could get sheets of foam in this size?

Thanks,

Tim

I also have some free foams to spare, if you need more. :)
