My First DIY Tele .... or maybe a magnifier ????

Wanna make a scope? Or better still, grind a mirror yourself. Or, you have some good tips in making a really useful accessory? This is the place to show what your hands can do...

My First DIY Tele .... or maybe a magnifier ????

Post by vermin498 »

Hi there ....
Ok guys ... this is nothing compared to what you pple have built ... anyway, i juz tot i could share my passion ... that is to create an innovate ...

I build this from practically junks found in rubbish bins and the sorts.
And would you believe it if i told you my total cost of building this contraption is S$6 ????

The Lens - A 72mm camera Lens ( No idea of its focal length) from a rubbish bin
The Main tube - S$6 - an Artist tube from a local stationery shop
Focuser - a few scraps of PVC pipes which i scavenge from a thrown away aquarium stuff
The Diagonal and eyepiece - a gift from a fren taken from a Bushnell Telescope

Attached below is what i have created ...

Tell me what u think ... and pls Think before u Throw ....

no chance to try em out on the stars ... but its not bad as a bird watching piece for my girl ... a bit difficult to focus due to the flimsy focussing setup .... well the truth is, its juz JUNK and like any junk its a Pain to use ....

Ha ha ha ... but thats juz me ... i will keep on improving till its perfect ... all i need is the right kind of tools for the job ....

It was build in a rush so ... no calculation or mathematics was involve ... everything was trial and error ... a very crude method but fast ... even the cutting of the pipes was done in a rush ...

wow....$6 can't even buy a toy telescope! But I don't think you can find camera lenses in the dustbins everyday!

of course not .... most of these items i collected over a period of time ....
told ya i m some sort of a karang guni man .... i got a few lenses at home but most of it are either to small or too usable to be broken apart .... i got a cctv camera complete with its lenses with me but till now still dunno what to do with em ....

still meddling with the 'telescope' though ... coz trying to make a better focusser for easy and comfortable use ....

my main aim will be to get a cheap triplet lens to make a small refractor for astrophotography .....

still going round those karang guni shops and looking for that ultimate cheap lens ....

anyway .. at least it keeps my mind occupied ....
