The success is a combination of (Sphinx+TMB115+Nagler Zoom 3-6) plus his sketching skills.
If there were enough participants I would love to set judging criteria based on :-
1. Similar Scope Setup (preferably with at least 2 scopes of different
setups and sketching for each of the setup)
2. Accuracy on detail (based on what is seen on the eyepiece and not
what is perceived)
3. Labeling on Sketch (directions, star transparency, max mag
observable, weather conditions, etc)
4. Time Duration (everyone to be allocate a fair amount of time)
5. Participant prior observational experiences.
Just like an AstroPhoto Competition it won't be a fair comparison between a quality APO+SBIG vs a low cost Reflector +Digital Cam. Maybe we will have 3 categories next time;
Cat 1 - Best Imaging with Least Setup Cost
Cat 2 - Best Imaging with Similar Setup Cost
Cat 3 - Best Overall (anything goes)
Anyway congra to Richard Low
Wee Kiong
P.S. : Vincent if possible can you scan those winners' sketches and placed them in the folder for everyone to see.

Ok..I will try to do the scanning, but it will take awhile because I don't have a scanner at home. I will ask my office assistant to do it for me tommorrow.
BTW thanks for sponsoring those prizes. Your contribution have certainly help to promote astronomy in Spore.
Oh! I got a call this morning from someone who told me that I got 1st. Did not quite expect this because I only did a hasty sketch at the last minute (after Aircon Vent talked to me) and the CM (central meridien) of Mare Sirenum in the sketch was not as clear and detailed as the view of Mare Erythraeum seen earlier that evening. Likewise, the South Polar Cap and the north limb brightening in the sketch was not as distinct as it was seen earlier.
Thanks to Liuming for letting me view thru his superb TMB 115 apo and his TMB 4mm Supermonocentric. Thanks to Wee Kiong too, who is so kind to sponsor this whole event.
As for time duration, I would normally allow myself at least a half-hour minimum to one hour for the best view and sketching of the planets during moments of excellent seeing condition, though this may not be practical for a sketch competition if all participants have to share the view..

I would have to agree with Wee Kiong on some of his thoughts above. Maybe next time it would be more standardised if we can designate a few scopes on tracking mounts for all sketch participants to view and sketch from.Just a thought

Thanks Wee Kiong for your great support.
As for the planet sketch competition, I think the role of the organiser is to encourage the contenders get the most from their scopes and perspectives as well as their sketching skill. To be fair, I would suggest the evaluating committee add in a scope factor to fine tune the results. For example a 10 inch SCT with 35% central obstruction and 1/4 wave front error, after being cooled down and well collimated, has the same scope factor (or MTF response) as a 6.5 inch APO; To be more fair, bigger sopes suffer more from atmospheric scintillation, the organiser may also record this factor from time to time and further reel this factor in the credits they gave to the contenders.
