Hi SINGASTRO,
For the benefit of the emerging astro imaging community, there will be a seminar tutorial session on digital image processing for celestial deep sky objects next Friday 18th August 2006. The content of the tutorial consists of (in no particular order):
1) Image calibration
2) Noise Reduction
3) Vignetting Removal
4) Image Processing Tricks
This tutorial will benefit anyone with a keen interest in imaging and wants to learn the basics of image processing to enhance their images, and would like enlighten themselves with a clear-cut systematic processing approach. The tutorial will last for two hours and will be mainly practical, with a step by step approach to processing a sample image through image processing softwares.
Event Details:
Venue: National University of Singapore, Block S13, Level 2, Seminar Room 14 (S13-02-14)
Date: 18th August 2006, Friday
Time: 730PM to 930PM
Please bring along a laptop with Adobe Photoshop installed and a thumbdrive (minimum 128MB).
Interested participants, please respond to this thread or email remuscj@gmail.com. Places are limited so please book early!
ASTRO IMAGE PROCESSING SEMINAR
BTW, i have a suggestion. If you are coming with a laptop (with PS installed already) and a thumbdrive, do come half an hour earlier, i will be there, so that we can do the image transfer to your laptop and you can follow up with the tutorial hands-on. This arrangement would be best, so that we can start promptly at 730PM and not hold up the rest of the people. Also, please come on time, as once you are late, you will be lost in the methologies, in which case, kindly get the next person beside you to help you "catch up". :-)
Note: This is the first time, something like this is being done here in Spore, and will be the first time for me conducting it as well, but you will have my word that this session will clear the hurdle and lower the entry learning curve to specialised astro image processing for deep sky objects. It took me a long time (several years) to "get it right", but with guidance, it is much easier. Somehow all the online articles on the net describing this (and even books) do not tell you detailed enough. Also had enquiries whether this session is free, yes it is FREE, so just come and attend. If this first tutorial session has good response, further sessions might be organised.
