To answer ur question.......

We need to clear some misconceptions. :shock:

I presume ur 60x700 scope u bought most probably is a Tasco or Bushnell. The cover of the box claims tat u can see lots of astro things n even have pics of colourful DSO on it.

Let me put tis crudely, the scope is a typical TRASH scope. Put it simply, it is a toy! :?

The optics of the scope is a 60mm objective, yes, but if u look closely u will notice a cunning aperture stop in it, why, to cover up for the poor optics design. Thus u are not really using a 60mm to observe! :wink: The mount most prob is a weak wobbly alt-azi mount, thus it is so bad tat u can only use the scope on the moon. :( :( :(

On the other hand, the ETX-60 is a true 60mm with multi-coated optics. :wink: This coating reduces light lost by scattering.The scope is mount steady on a fork mount, and the goto will held u track object as it travels across the sky. Further more, I used the computerized programs like "tonight's best" to learn about constellations and DSO. Thus tis is a great scope. :wink:

F.O.V= field of view

tis is dependent on the magnification and eyepieces u are using to observe.

When we talk about fov of an eyepiece. We are talking about the fov of the ep as a result of the number of lens and arrangement of the optical system in the ep.

Like Plossl and orthoscopic ep both have a 4 lens system in the ep. But due to optical arrangement of the eps, Plossl have a fov of 50 to 55 degrees. Orthoscopic have 45 to 50 degrees.

When we talk about true fov, we talk about the observable field of the eyepiece as a result of incoporating it in the path of the telescope system. :wink:

thus :idea: true fov= fov of eyepiece/magnification.

Just like I expected poor mount barlows and accessories. :idea: :shock: :cry:

The eps are all the 0.965 inch type thus all virtually useless. The barlow is added to make it look more like a secientific instruments. :idea: :roll:
