Reducing CA to a minimum in BIG APERTURE REFRACTORS

Post by AGMI »

How to reduce chromatic abberation in 120mm and bigger aperture scope..well some will not like this idea but it seems a stopper ring works..like in your scope is 120mm, you can stop it down to 100mm. only some light loss but seriously it works and after that, you can use a minus violet filter.

The light loss is not a bit, it is a lots... around 30% light loss!!! I don't think anyone will buy a 120mm refractor and use it as a 100mm refractor... than might just get a 100mm refractor. The better way is to get a Chromacor to convert your 120mm achromat refractor to a 120mm APO!!

i don't think Chromacor can "convert" achromat to APO! maybe just up to near APO quality level. :D correct me if i'm wrong.

Yes, I also think it'll not convert your achromat refractor to a real APO... but it should be near enough and should be better than those low cost APO... :)

Have a nice day.

there are many ways to take care of CA, but cost is another story. few feel the need to spend that crazy usd6k to buy a 6" apo.
