Visual Back for ETX

Post by Airconvent »

There has been talk that the mirror on the diagonal of the ETX degrades the light transmission by around 10%.
I'm curious to try a visual back option for my ETX.
Anyone know where I can get the visual back adapter for Meade ETX?
I want to try out using it without a diagonal for out-of-zenith objects.
Meade does not seem to sell one...
thanks

hi rich,

yeah i've read in quite a few places that there are problems with the ETX diagonal.. like after using the flip mirror the mirror never returns to the exact same place, thus giving some collimation problems..
so what this visual back thing your talking about?

rich, did you try scopetronix? They might have. If not, try scopestuff.com....they are like a warehouse for all these parts.

Worse come to worse, email weasner...he might know...

The guys at ScopeTronix are Meade dealers themselves so they may have an official Meade one , but again due to the tight control Meade exercises over their dealers, even ScopeTronix refuses to do me any special favours by shipping these controlled items out.

How about this one ? (taken off apogee's page)

[ETX to 1.25"] Allows use of other 1.25" Accessories $29.95

Extreme left item shown in the pic. Seems like one end is made to be threaded into the rear "photographic" port of the ETX and the other end comes with a 1.25" well with a thumbscrew which allows you to insert your 1.25" diagonal or eyepieces into.

This one is made by Apogee, so they shouldn't have any problem shipping this out of the US to you.

Hope this helps.

Hi Sam
I still need to confirm if it is correct. Meade themselves do not actually market the product, presumably because the OTA will hit the base near zenith...
