Is anyone in our community into astro sketching? I've always had thoughts to try.

Re: Astro sketching (Comet C/2023 A3)

Post by joachim.ong »

I guess I shall post about my journey into astro sketching here... As a beginner, the comet was a good practice target, especially given how demure it looks in our Singapore sky. First sketch was done after seeing it through binoculars between the clouds for 5 seconds, while the second sketch was done many days later with my 10 inch dobsonian.

Sketches were made back at my desk, on white paper with a mechanical pencil, tissue and blending stumps to smear the graphite. I then snapped a picture with my phone, inverted, and post processed the image on snapseed selectively adding some colour to the star as well.
