the state of the optics is terrible (primarily due to high humidity singapore weather). Its fungus all over the optics. The sellers says it can be cleaned for a couple hundred dollars but having seen the condition of some of my canon lenses, the fungus destroys the coatings on the optical elements and any amount of cleaning is not going to make it as good.

Yup the excrement of fungus is acidic to eat away both anti-reflection coating and reflective aluminium coating. Similar to tooth decay.
Sellers say anything to get cash.
Secondary concern is if you put clean eyepiece into close contact with fungus scope , risk cross contamination bringing a load of spores back to eyepiece collection container.
