Hello to all Astronomy Enthusiasts!!!
It has been quite a while (almost 7 years actually!) since we last had a good astronomy event here in Singapore (the last being ASTRONOMY2017 at Marina Bay Sands). We had the pandemic happening in the years of 2019-2022, but gradually, we all "got back on our feet" and resumed astronomy activities in the later years. As you may be aware, trying to have and coordinate on such events is never easy - one needs to have a group of dedicated people to step forth and help out, needing to find a good and conducive venue (and not forgetting having to cope with escalating venue costs in this prevailing inflationary climate), it takes a fair bit of hope where we need "the stars aligned" to make things happen.
But this is indeed happening, towards the end of this year!!
Am heartened to thus announce, with the help and support of a great organizing committee, that there will finally be a much anticipated single-day-ticketed astronomy event here in Singapore - the Singapore Astronomy Symposium 2024 (SAS2024)!!
It will be held on 7th December 2024 Saturday, at the prestigious National Gallery Singapore. This venue is one of Singapore's national icons, and has recently been transformed to be a visual arts museum that creates dialogues between the art of Singapore, Southeast Asia and the world, to foster and inspire a creative and inclusive society. In a similar mission objective, the upcoming Singapore Astronomy Symposium would seek to be inclusive through the awareness of astronomy, which has been a crucial part of our greater society, as we move across generations.
The Singapore Astronomy Symposium will be a first event of its kind, held here in Singapore, striving to inform and educate everyone, through astronomy - how we fit into the vast universe and the world beyond Earth, through a humbling experience, equipping ourselves with its knowledge.
This astronomy event, held in the said world class venue, will gather astronomy enthusiasts in one place and will consist of high quality keynote talks and workshops related to various facets of astronomy, from practical astronomy experiences, cosmology and astrophysics, astrophotography, as well as astronomical education and outreach.
Use this in-person opportunity to have enriching face time with both local and overseas speakers of related astronomy expertise, networking with like-minded enthusiasts who have the same passion about astronomy and astrophotography as you do.
The event will culminate with the public viewing event in celebration of the Opposition of Jupiter. There will be great views of the Jovian giant (and its moons) through varied astronomical instruments, as well as interaction opportunities with fellow astronomers.

The Symposium will feature several distinguished speakers and workshop presenters with good background, deep-rooted expertise and decades of related astronomical experiences, delivering keynote talks and workshops of varying topics. They would be specially invited just for this astronomically enriching event, coming from Singapore (our fellow Singaporeans!), but also astronomy friends from our neighbouring Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, etc!
