Test Market : C5 for sale

Post by Airconvent »

CC was right and probably will laugh when he reads this.

Yes. I played with my 4" and 5" and now I really think I need an 8"!

Bought this C5 from Weixing a few months ago and only used twice.
The images are good but after looking at an 8", everything else seems inadequate.

This baby will make a very cool portable scope. Fits in a camcorder bag nicely.

Package includes only the 5" scope and visual back. Includes cover for OTA as well as a dovetail base mount for mounting finders. No diagonal or finder. There is a handle bar for easy transport of the scope.
Selling $600 firm.

Please contact me only if you are cool with the price.
Thanks for reading.

Actually the c5 performs quite well, comparable to the c8 when viewing on the brighter deep sky objects. And it is much, much more portable than the c8. I bought the c5 for my wife, who is very happy that she can easily handle it better than the c8. In fact, it takes up approximately the same space and weight of my megrez 80 in my knapsack, but the added aperture gives an additional 2.4x light gathering power, hence it is better for deep sky as compared to the short tube 80. So it has a good balance between aperture, optical quality and portability, that's probably one of the reasons why nasa chosed it for the space shuttle mission over some other scopes. I think it would make a good first or even second scope.

hi chuan yee!
welcome back...hope to see you organise my old favourite dempsey CSN soon..have not been there a while.
yes, aperture fever comes to all astronomers. only those staying in a fever zone are immune...like when all your neighbours have 10" scopes and they obs every night under clear skies!

hi
i have not decided to sell it yet as thinking of keeping it as a portable scope and lots of people here discouraging me from parting with this baby!
I will consider if the offer is good though.
In anycase, here are the details.

C5 is quite popular here, wait for a couple more weeks you'll find one for sale here (I'll check whether Clement's C5 has been sold). In any case, better join our observation sessions first to see if 5" is enough for you.
