Silver coating for your telescope mirror?

Post by perseid »

Hi All,

I have the facilities here to coat your telescope mirror. This facilities are actually used to manufacture optical filter, but they are currently underuse. So, I want to put it in good use.

I have done some testing by coating silver on glass, and it achieved about 96% reflectivity. The silver is further enhance and protected with a few layers of Zirconium Oxide and Silicon Dioxide. The final reflectivity range from 97% - to over 98% reflectivity across the whole visible spectrum.

With modification, I can coat mirror up to 14". The price is not fix yet, but will definately be cheaper than done elsewhere plus you'll save on shipping. Also determine by how many of you want this service.

Do let me know your response and I can try to meet your need.

Regards,
CK

Good news! That would stimulate mirror making in Thailand. We don't have mirror coating so far.

Kayheen,
No figuring service at the moment. Is your mirror figure bad? Or you just want to improve your mirror figure from maybe 1/4 wave to 1/20wave?

Anat,
I don't think there is any coating service around S. E. Asia. I have been looking for one myself since I made my first mirror years ago. At last, I sent it to Clausing in USA, which cost me more than buying the mirror ready made. It is not difficult to do a good coating, but the equipments cost a lot.
