Dear Wee Kiong

Do you provide training, say, for a Meade 7 LX200 GPS scope? How much do you charge? Just for training...not rental

Hi Chris
I think there will be a few self-declared Autostar experts like Airconvent (Richard), Wira and myself who would be more than very glad to help you with your new scope when it arrives...

hahahahaha...looks like CC just volunteered for coolie duty!
anway, its no joke. although the aperture is smaller than the 8" SCT, the OTA is significantly longer. No wonder Meade did not have an 8" Mak.
It would look like an 8" refractor instead...
Anyway, Chris, there is a way to be self sufficient. Get a big bag pack.
Line it with foam or plastic bags stuffed with soft material and carry your scope in it. The tripod legs can then be carried on your shoulder.
I bought one for my ETX105 from Jurong point and amazingly, it cost less than $50! It has side pockets for eyepieces, manuals as well as a strap for carrying a small tripod...

The 7" scope weight is about 60 Ibs & the tripod about 30 Ibs.
The carrying bag for the 7" is about 3ft x 2ft x 1ft (min).

Compared this to the ETX-105AT total weight of only 25 Ibs !

Putting the 7" with the carrying bag into a car boot might prove even a
task. Probably a trolley-type bag is more feasible

Hi Wee Kiong,
Maybe I overestimated the strength of a backpack...have you tried carrying it using your Ali-baba bag? Else, I guess you will need a Pelican case...

Maybe the tripod would fit the Ali-baba bag but definately Not the scope itself. Imagine carrying your own weight on one hand and the Ali-baba on the other.

As for the Pelican you might have to find a larger than normal size and it will cost a bomb. The best is to reuse the the shipping package and bring
it to a Bag Vendor (can find many at George Ave , Jalan Berseh Area). They can customised to a carrying Nylon bag for about S$ 100-150. If you want you can even put on a Meade Logo!

Hi Wee Kiong
yeah...I know...but the orignal box is too big. Unless you have an MPA like Wira, you will need something more transportable, such as a Pelican case with wheels and handle. While the 7" is smaller than the LX90, it is also much longer , so I can't confirm if Vincent's pelican case can actually take the Mak...if yes..taking a cab would also be easier...and bringing it across the customes would be more discreet!
