Please tell me I don't need this

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

I think it looks BLOODY nice!!! Trying to stop myself from getting one... :)

It looks way cooler than a TV scope, which has an extremely ugly (and optional) micro-focuser. Can't wait to see more innovative products from WO.

*Tries to psycho Vinsnr*

What!?!? Are you serious you are getting this 'cheap plastic-like' junk? Come on...red is the worst colour you would want for a telescope! Aperture?? Of course! I will strongly encourage you to go for it!

Give yourself a break! This is what you should be eyeing on instead!!!

anat wrote:From the comment #5 in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/William-O ... ssage/5264 , does it imply that the color correction is not as good as the triplet ED scope? And the price of the 80 mm triplet ED increased recently.

Quote from the same link: "No,it is not exactly the same as a triplet Fluorite or ED. Color correction is still VERY good, and sharpness is great!! Other advantages include, it cools faster, lighter and easier to balance, in a stylish anodized red tube, has top-quality Super high
transmission coating, costs less (well, for some of us it IS
important...)"

The color correction cannot compare with air spaced triplet like TMB which has six variables to optimize the overall performance.

Listen to the magic words: fluorite doublet (yes, I salivate at the mention of the word 'fluorite', Roland)...crayford 2-speed fine focuser... TMB co-designed... FMC, STM coating... rotating focuser... brass compression rings... 15 baffles... retractable lens shade... they sure know how to hit the right buttons!

However, a few wrong buttons - unlike the ZS 66, they reverted back to the 2" focuser instead of the 1.6" (which I can use all my SCT accessories). Also the scope require a 2" extender, probably for some equipment that could not come to focus?

Finally, it's in RED! Not white, white with black, white with blue, white with gold, black, grey, blue, nor green. My Astroscan has company now! :)

Seems that only about 100 will be made. I made a pre-order, but realised that WO is based in CA so I will have to pay almost US$70 in sales tax alone (GST here is >7%). Not worth it, so cancelled my pre-order. Hopefully a few of these OTAs will go to astro shops outside of CA so I can beat the sales tax :)

I hope they don't just serve the US market alone.

Maybe WO dealers in Singastro can bring in a couple for us?

why settle for 80mm when there's a 105mm?
why settle for a doublet when there's a triplet?
