Grab & Go Alt-Az mount for C8

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Grab & Go Alt-Az mount for C8

Post by jermng »

Hi,
I've been using my much smaller 80mm Megrez so much more than my C8 w/ SVP mount mainly because of the quick setup for the Meg.
I'm looking to get the C8 out more often so thought of maybe getting a quick setup Alt-Az mount which I can just put the OTA on and just start my session.
Any suggestions as to what's a good and affordable mount to get? I'll be using 2" EPs so that extra weight might be a consideration.
I know there are tons of C8 users here - now and in the past ... =) Maybe you could share some of your past experiences in getting a grab+go C8? =)

Thanks for any suggestions,
Jeremy

Luiming AstroSlew mount head will be a good choice... I think it should be the cheapest Alt-Az mount head available.

Have a nice day.

I second that! It is better than the Giro DX, Microstar, M400 etc. I have used the Mewlon 210 (8.3kg ota) on the Astroslew smoothly without counterweight shaft or counterweights at all.

Yes, get the Astroslew (it's out of stock now, will be available again end of this month). I permanently mount my 7" newt (8kg, 40inch long OTA) on it without any counterweights!

it is still same as the original batch except that the bottom thread holes were retapped.

Liu Ming, the only "improvement" required is to make sure the dovetail clamp is 100% compatible with Vixen dovetails :-)

cheers,
Arief
