Identify this alt-az mount

Post by anat »

This mount allows panning and slow-motion control similar to Tak Teegul. It is much cheaper and well-built. But we have not seen it much. What is it ? :)

I do believe this mount is from BORG. Am I right?

Yes, it is. But it is 90% correct. :)
The borg (Oasis) mount never catches my eyes until the last weekend when I had a chance to test one belonging to my friend. One reason is that the zenith cannot be reached becuase it is obstructed by the azimuth knob. But after inspecting careful, I noticed two screws connecting the arm and the azimuth part...

After unscrewing, flipping, and re-assembing the arm, it is done!! It works very well for 66-80 mm. It is well-built from cast aluminum. The settling time is less than 2 sec for the setup. It is a good alternative to a small alt-az mount like Microstar.

eh, i have used that for years, yet i never though of flipping the arm. my version doesn't attach to the plate like yours, instead there's a something that allows u to adjust the altitude for equitorial mode. so for me i just adjust the altitude setting to reach zenith.

i just noticed ur alt knob is on the opposite side, u gonan do another mod to switch it over to ur side so it's easier to reach?

Mooey:

My friend made the bottom plate to change the screw size from 3/8" to 1/4". Japanese version is sold with the 1/4" screw footprint. As for the alt knob, an alt slow-motion cable can be attached to the opposite side of the alt knob.

Mooey, if your mount has too much stiction, you can find adjustment screws under the plastic setting circles. Have fun :)
