Portable Setup Part 2

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Perhaps we can have a discussion on our 'grab and go' setups that can be a reference for other people. :)

My portable setup:

C5 (black colour), Microstar Deluxe (with saddle plate), Orion 9x50 correct image right angle finder (can do without it also), red dot finder, 2 inch diagonal (Liu Ming's design), Astrozap dewshield, alternative finder is my green laser mounted onto Orion dovetail and 2 inch eyepieces. Also, I bring my liquid leveler.

Reason why I don't have a quickfinder... is I sold it. :(

I will only bring 2x2inch eyepieces: 35mm Panoptic (35x and 1.8 degree) and 17mm Nagler T4 (70x and 1.2 degree)
I use this combination primarily for DSOs.
My setup is far less than Weixing's. I am not a commando. :P
I use a small 'trolley bag' to put the C5 and accessories in.

What are your portable 'grab and go' solutions?

Hi,
My setup is far less than Weixing's. I am not a commando.
I'm not a commando, I'm just lazy to pack. Grab and Go... Grab my bag and everything is inside and Go for observation.

Anyway, it isn't that heavy... :)

My grab and go: Orange Tube C8 w/ 50mm finder + Astroslew II + Wooden Surveyor tripod + 34mm Siebert Observatory + 13mm Baader Hyperion + 2x Tak Diagonal. That's it. Very, very portable...

this is grab and go??? :shock:

Ok..then my 11" f/5 dob is also grab and go.

my grab an go:
skywatcher 4" f/5 refractor permanently setup on alt-az mount and tripod with 45deg erecting prism. just grap a few ep's, collapse tripod legs. & go!
good for sun, moon, jupiter, saturn, and a few dso...
use for imaging sun and moon also... good for sun spots, transit and eclipse

Weight is subjective.
Agree... ha ha ha :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

I think the credit should go to the bag... it make you feel that it's not that heavy, but I'm still a bit worry that the harness won't be able to take the load... it doesn't look that strong... :( :(

Of course it is not heavy....for a commando, that is!
:D

I wonder what happened to users of the Manfrotto 410 geared head. There used to be at least 4-6 of them in Singastro, using it in conjunction with the short tube refractor or the 5" MCT/SCT.

The geared head may not be that convenient to nudge, but it is excellent for its slo-mo control.

Here are my visual observation configurations...

My wide-field bino:-
8x32mm

My object-scan bino:-
12x42mm

My lightest scope setup:-
Vitacon Swing View spotting scope (70mm objective, 400mm focal length, 20x to 60x zoom) on Feisol CT-3401 carbon-fibre tripod with pan-tilt head

My portable scope setup:-
Vixen ED80Sf 80mm APO refractor on Porta Mount/Feisol CT-3401 carbon-fibre tripod with pan-tilt head

My preferred scope setup:-
6" classical cassegrain on Porta Mount

Alvin's setup is nice especially with the 80mm APO. :)
If next time I have money, I will replace my C5 with a 80/90mm APO. Have to wait for the price drop much further.....
