Hi, was surfing the net just now and notice a brand of telescope, the Konus Telescope. Seems to be an italian scope which keep itself simple without a GOTO mount in any model. The price is about US100 - US300 cheaper then itself oompetitor Celestron, Meade and Orion, but the specification looks almost on par.
Anyone has any experience with that brand of scope?
Konus Telescope..... anyone heard about it?

Have you checked the prices of the Skywatcher brand with our local dealers? I think Konus is one of the Skywatcher clones. Not many people have them to come to a consensus on the quality.blurblock wrote:Hi, was surfing the net just now and notice a brand of telescope, the Konus Telescope. Sometimes, the extra money you pay is for the brand.

Did a comparision, this is what I found out,
It is definitely an Italian brand, nothing much american about it, except they have branches in USA.
Their Refactors and Reflectors are somewhat similar to Skywatcher and Orion, but not their Maksutov ....
Nearest comparision :
Their 130mm Maksutov and Skywatcher 127mm :
Konus
Focal length 2000mm f15.4
130mm optical tube with multicoated optics
Equatorial mount w/dual axis motor drive
Metal Tripod adjustable from 2.4 to 4ft
10x50 finder scope
6x20 polar scope
45 degree diagonal mirror (vision at 90 and 45 degree)
Skywatcher 127mm
Focal length 1540mm f/12.1
127mm optical tube
Equatorial mount 3m w/either single or dual axis motor drive
Metal Tripod adjustable from 2.4 to 4ft
6x26 finder scope
90 degree Mirror Star
(Basically, the Skywatcher 127mm bare more similarity to Orion StarMax 127 then Konus 130mm)

Yes...they're Italian. Whether they are better than the Skywatcher "gang" is not clear since no one here has actually used one.
but of late, they have been increasing their visbility in Sky&Telescope.
The advert seem to project a very professional company with good quality standards. Could be only clever marketing.
