Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Mounting Encoders on AstroSlew I

Post by jermng »

Hi,

Does anyone know if encoders for the Giro II mount can be fitted on the AstroSlew I?

That would be an interesting option. :)

hmm... if you are ok with the cost, why not buy a Sky Scout and stick it next to your finder? Then you have less work to do...

I heard that the skyscout would not work when near metallic objects, else mounting accessories on scopes for skyscout would have been available long ago. I think it has a built-in compass. You can ask bergkamp to clarify.

I very much doubt that the SkyScout has solution resolution to act as a digital setting circle.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I'm not jumping on the Skyscout wagon yet. :)

Anyway, anyone know if the diameters of both axis on the Giro and AstroSlew are the same or similar?

That give you a reason to buy carbon fiber OTA .. haha

Yes, the resolution of such magnetic + tilt sensor device are lower compare to usual digital setting circle, the strong selling point is no wiring, portable and easy. if you need higher resolution for your larger scope then skyscout if not for you.

The Nexstar SE Single arm mount on another posting is very attracting...
