beginner Q on 1& 1/2 inch telescope for adaptor to camer

Post by notone »

Hi all,
I bought an adaptor from someone who told me it can attach a telescope to DSLR. I tried and it can fit my PK mount camera. what I ask here is what kind of lens or telescope to mount with? on adaptro it says 49mm while I was told it's for 1 and half inch telescope. all monoculars have same mount or different like cameras?---such as diff size or same size diff screws? also my budget is very little, maybe start from watching moon first.
Do give me a reply! thanks a lot!

Hi,
May be you should post a picture of that adapter and your telescope (or spotting scope) for us to take a look. Also, are you mounting on spotting scope or telescope??

Most modern telescope eyepiece use 1.25" (31.7mm) and 2" (50.8mm) format... the diameter of the eyepiece barrel.

Anyway, if you can come to Tampines, I can help you take a look at your adapter and give you some advice. PM me if you need my help.

Have a nice day.

thanks a lot for your reply!
I do not own a telescope but going to get one if it can fit the adapter.
so basicly telescope consists lens body and eyepiece, and camera adapter will take the place of eyepiece, am I right? And the modern thread to accept adapter would be 1.25" or ''2" Never ''1.5''?
I measured its inner diameter is 39mm. it's an old adapter which consists of a T-mount adapter and a T-mount to PK mount adapter. By now I am not sure seller said it's for telelense (old 39mm thread?) or telescope. any how I just bought it in pulse and thought I can easily get a cheap monocular for moon shoting, sigh.
any idea how much for a 2nd hand set of telescope with eyepiece and adaptor to camera for watching moon?

Hi,

Yes for prime focus where your telescope act as the lens for your SLR.
And the modern thread to accept adapter would be 1.25" or ''2" Never ''1.5''?
Thread?? You mean T-thread?? T-thread is standard. The barrel of the eyepiece or T-adapter is 1.25" or 2".

Below are some picture of how to connect a SLR to a telescope in prime focus. Hope this will help you to visualize the setup:
Image
Left to Right: 2" T-Adapter (there are also 1.25" T-Adapter), T-Ring and SLR.

Image
The T-Adapter is screw into the T-Ring and T-Ring is connect to the SLR like a normal lens.

Image
The T-Adapter (with SLR mounted) is inserted to a scope focuser and the setup is really to shoot.
any idea how much for a 2nd hand set of telescope with eyepiece and adaptor to camera for watching moon?
That's depend on the seller and the type of scope. Do watch out for the buy and sell section.

Have a nice day.
