Hullo, just refreshing the thread!
Date: 11 August 2007
Time: 9pm onwards
Place: East Coast Park area between Carpark C4 and D1. This place is not the darkest in ECP but we do not need "darkest" skies to see meteors. And it is accessible with or without driving, so more people can come.
Request: food? Maybe it could be a nice Singastro gathering too. I will bring some tidbits (biscuits, ruffles, etc) Maybe those with portable tables could also set up 2 of them side by side to house the food, that would be great too.
I haven't seen a meteor this whole year.. let's go and enjoy the night, and hopefully we can see some.

Yesterday's sky was bad. However, we did manage to see some meteors (ie, 1 or 2)
It was mostly a chit chat session, as a lot of us have been quite inactive lately, and have not had a chance to see one another. People who attended yesterday were Clifford, Remus, Eric (boo), his girlfriend, hannah (hlyf), jianshen (clubsnap), reis, me, and a few other friends I invited.
The sky may be bad, but that doesn't mean we should give up on meteor showers in Singapore. If we do, who else in Singapore will still live to appreciate these wonders of the world?

last night, i tried to look for meteors too from town, at about 8pm and around midnight from my north-facing room window. it was mostly cloudy, with clear intermittent patches. there was also a lot of vapour or thin clouds in the air, which lent the sky a reddish glow.
did not manage to see any meteors.
at 5am, i got up, peeked out the window, saw even more clouds, and went back to sleep.
will try again tonight.
BTW, the radiant (constellation Perseus) only rises to 20 degrees above the horizon at around 3am this time of the year for us. however, it is said that most meteors occur around midnight since the observer's part of the Earth would then be facing "into the wind". taking these two facts together, what time could Perseids be visible? what's the best time: 10pm, midnight, 3am, or 6am?

Hi,
Ya... the weather was bad yesterday, so decided to stay at home instead.
I try to "catch" the meteor shower on the National Day eve, but stare at the radiant area till 3am and basically see none.
I think I had no meteor shower "luck" as most of my meteor sighting was during normal observation session when the sky was clear.
Good luck (need lots of them) and have a nice day.

I think anytime after midnight will be a good time as long as the sky is clear.taking these two facts together, what time could Perseids be visible? what's the best time: 10pm, midnight, 3am, or 6am?

I am a new star here.
I hv always been very interested in stars.
Today. While searching for Meteor Shower, came across this site.
I din know SIN has such a 'club'. I am so happy.
Btw, I am thinking of going to Tuas to try my luck.
I wander if its a 'stupid' thought.
My search result was that its the peak is from tonite til tmrw morning.
Am I right?
Please professionals. Please enlighten me.
Thank you.
