Al Nagler has talked about something called 'Majestic Factor'

It is something true for widefield eyepieces and that is the reason why I do not find plossls or eyepieces with smaller AFOV able to compete with eyepieces with larger AFOV for the same true field they produce. Read the article..
Widefield eyepieces are not only fun but they do have benefits when one is able to make use of its field size.

Sorry guys, waiting time for Ethos is 2-4 weeks (standard answer?). Unable to get it on time when I am in US. Perhaps wait for the initial crowd to clear?

Hi,
Saw the TeleVue 13mm Ethos on Monday (now you know why Monday is raining) at Astro Bargains and take a photo with it to compare the size.

Photo courtesy of Astro Bargains. Hope the floor is not wet...

It's big, but not as heavy as I thought. Below are my first impression:
1) The AFoV is really huge.... Basically you definitely won't be able to see the edge unless you really turn your head and look from the side of the eye lens edge. If you do so, you'll see the edge and may be only 5% of the view. Also, I saw some lateral colour at the edge.
2) The field lens, like most wide angle eyepiece, is quite close to the end of the 1.25" barrel with a bit of space for the filter thread. The filter thread from the field lens retaining ring to the edge of the eyepiece is not blackened, but the retaining ring is. Not sure whether will it affect the view, but I guess it might not since you won't be able to see the edge in normal viewing position.
3) Like some of the TeleVue Nagler eyepiece, the eye lens is very near the top edge and the eye cup, IMHO, not really useful in Singapore light polluted environment as it is quite small.
Have a nice day.
