Orion Nebula (LRGB)

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Orion Nebula (LRGB)

Post by rcj »

Hi all!

How's everyone!

Imaging season is back again, well, long enough to be clear for one night for this common object.

Image data obtained in separate locations (all done with the 5-inch refractor). Luminance was done long ago in Mersing. Last night, managed to bag some colour data from the balcony, producing this composite. Not much colour data though, about 2 exposures of 5 minutes each per colour channel. The object was too high (and blocked from view), cutting the imaging session prematurely for this nebula. Will try to get more colour data soon....

nope, it was naturally flipped over in PS... didn't really bother to flip back as the image really needs more colour data to have a more balanced response (especially in the blues and greens) as compared to the 'hydrogen alpha' data. The HA component is actually real luminance images actually...

Tonight was clear again. Managed to quickly bag some more M42 data from 8PM to 9:30PM before the object was obstructed from view. Also took some short exposures for the core region. Still feel must need more colour data! oh well....here is goes:

I love the color. Well done! Interesting to see the star spikes at the right.
