Which solar filter for Skywatcher 102mm Mak ?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Which solar filter for Skywatcher 102mm Mak ?

Post by asterixsg »

Hello,

I am looking for a solar filter for Skywatcher 102 mm MAK.

There are so many options available on the internet - glass filters, mylar, baader film, R-G solar film etc. I am very very confused.

Looking for some advice from the pros here :

1. Which type of filter is value for money and long lasting and gives good results ? I am a newbie and I don't want to get very expensive filters.

2. I went to the Thousand Oaks website and found the results of R-G Solar film quite nice. Is it a good option ?

3. How do I determine the size of the filter that I should buy ? Let's say, if the outer diameter of the OTA is 102mm, what should be the approx size of the filter that I should buy ?

If anyone is planning to sell his/her solar filter, please do drop me a note as well.

Many thanks, in advance.

Buy the baader Solar filter. It comes in A4 size, and you can cut it to size for your MAK. Glass filters cost little more, but gives a pleasing orange colour.

The RG solar film is the latest product and boast to have similar quality than Baader. I'll gladly buy the R-g Solar film too.

Baader solar film is available locally, but RG film needs to buy from States.
