Hello! Hmm, I like to stargaze a lot by the beach or sometimes in my room. I've got a pair of binoculars but I don't think it's good enough for me to view whatever's at the sky. Hahaha. So, since I'm a beginner.. I suppose I should get an average binoculars first, but also one that allows me to view the moon/stars clearly.
Recommendations? Where to get them, and how much does it cost roughly? Thanks!
well an above average range of binoculars would be above $100 dollars. The additional amount after that is all for the coating of the lens, waterproofing, and of course brand.
Viewing through 7x35 or 8x40 is for wide angle viewing. 7x50 or 10x50 is for increased magnification with a reduction of Field of View. I would recommend the 7x35 or 8x40 binoculars because the magnification above those increase the hand shake when viewing, thus making the object very blur.
I am currently using 8x40 nikon Action EX series that is waterproof. I got it at Cathay photoshop at Marina Square for $249. It has a multi-coated lens and offers a 3D view of the sky. In conclusion, I find it worth every penny.
If you want to see more objects, you can get a 20x80 (HK$850) from Grandeye in HK, he can ship it to you, together with shipping it should be a little more than S$200 or may be someone in Singastro can offer his/hers. But than you need a tripod to hold the bino. Those hand held like 7x, 8x, 10x can't see very much in S'pore sky.
I am using a 25x100 most of the time and the 8x42 (WPIII - nitrogen filled) is sleeping most of the time since I don't need such a wide view. When you turn up for ob session at East Coast this coming Saturday, I can show them to you before you buy any bino.
