I'm going HK next sunday, will probably pay a visit to the HK dealer of MaxVision 127ED. They were quoting me US$1700 last time. Anyone interested to buy? I can carry the scope with me.

Hey Arief,

Hope you have a good trip to H.k. this weekend,..is it "Grandeye"
you're visiting,as a MaxvisionED Dealer or some other
vendor?

Also,(+ sorry if this is a silly question)..when you say that you can
"carry the scope with me"..do you actually mean you've got
some way to carry it on as Hand Luggage,or,..you're going to check it
in as Luggage that will be handled by Baggage Handlers??

The price seems really attractive, and I've read the recent threads
on Cloudynights.com which discuss the merits of this whole
"Meade v's Astro-Tech v's Maxvision" 127 ED spec. refractor that's
hitting the market....reading between the lines, while it's not
going to match the Tak.106 or FLT110 in some areas the price is
considerably lower, and people with waaaaay more expertise than
me,are giving excellent reports on it

I'm a newbie here guys,and looking at the 127ED spec it's about
30 inches++ long... and I take it might represent a
problem with Hand Luggage????...I'm obviously not new to flying,
but, being previously not into Astronomy, never had to put to test
the airlines "flexilility" with Hand Luggage "weight/dimensions".....
airlines like AirAsia + Thai.,who I fly with, amongst others, have all
roughly the same Hand Luggage limits of 21-22 inches and about
7kg's maximum :( .
"IF"......the answer is for it to be Checked-In Luggage, assuming
it's packed as best possible in the foam case etc.. etc.. how happy
are you guys to do that???...I'm new to all this...and with a scope
like the Maxvision 127 or even a more expensive one, is this
taking a big risk????
From reading the WO specs, one of the reasons I like the Megrez 110 ED
is because it falls "WITHIN" the H.L. limits of 22inches/7kg and I
wouldn't be letting anyone else touch my piece :mryellow:

A scope I love the look of for US$2000.00 is the new Orion EON 120 but
again it's 32 inches long
Finally,as a newbie it gets a bit mind-boggling + confusing when
reading all the Double v's Triplet +FPL-51 V'S fpl-53 debates,
and even more so when it gets complicated by further debates, like when
a Doublet could be even better than some triplets, depending on glass
used, polishing + spacing etc.. etc.. :( ....BUT.. as someone just
getting into this hobby,I've got the feeling that I would be SERIOUSLY
HAPPY with ANY of these scopes as I'm not experienced enough yet to
appreciate or even recognise the subtle differences!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone and if you have any feedback on anything I've
brought up here(especially Airline Hand Luggage)...I'd welcome
your much more experienced, considered points of view

Well, definitely I will need to unthread the lens cell from the main tube and hand carry the lens. The long tube will be checked in.

But you in Thailand?

Hey arief,
Yeah,I'm in Thailand.I've been looking around the Darasart.com
website,..some Astro. stuff here seems to be a bit expensive :( ...
but maybe if I look further I can get some good deals!!...I would have
no problem though paying for a cheapo 'AirAsia flight and doing a
"Self-Collect" on a scope from somewhere like Grandeye,H.K.!!

Thanks for the reply on how you'd take the 127ED back...............
Duuuhhh!!!,I really do have a lot to learn and didn't think or assume
"unthreading"the Lens cell as a solution to this.I take it this isn't too
difficult to do + can be done on all refractor scope makes???

Me,I'm just after buying an Orion 15*70 mm Resolux set of
Bino's and the Orion Paragon-P mount/tripod..so I'm really
enjoying that :mryellow: and am reading up on my
Nightwatch/Starwatch/Idiot's Guide To Astronomy..books

Hopefully,in the very near future I'll get my money together to get a
nice refractor/mount set-up and bring it to the next level as the
Americans say.
I have been told before and am aware of a Thai guy called"Anat"
who uses this forum, could probably be a big help to a newbie like
me with hints + tips....so when I'm not so busy with work in the near
future I must contact him!!!!!

**Here's a pic. of some of my books on my bed with my Orion's lying
beside them..coke can for size reference/feel.....it's not much really
compared to some of the high-end stuff out there, but it's a start
I suppose :) + I'm loving my hobby already,

THANKS,

DAVID........
