Galaxies in Leo

Post by boothee »

Last night I tried to take some picture of Galaxy. Not a good one but able to grab some galaxies which seems like galaxy in picture.

I don't know why I got really bad vegnetting effect on my picture. I try to make it disappear in Light Room 1.3 but help only a bit. Any tips?

Image

Telescope: 254mm, Newtonian Reflector on EQ5 with Dual Drives
Camera: Canon EOS300D unmoded
Exposure: 120s x 14
ISO: 400
Unguided
Shutter release with china made wireless remote (Very convenient and it cost only around 15USD)
Light, Dark & Bias stacked in DSS.
Edit in CS3 and Light Room 1.3

Clear Skies!

every optical system should have little of vignetting effect. It may due to the illumination FOV is not big to cover the APS size of DSLR chip. It also may due to the secondary mirror is not big enough....

I also noticed some coma. Perhaps you can just frame the image in the center and crop it?

Hi,

Just 2 rounds of Russell Croman's Gradient Xterminator will resolve it.

Thank you so much for your kind suggestions and comments!

I still don't get chance to change or upgrade my telescope. :D

"Russell Croman's Gradient Xterminator". Took note. I'll try very soon.

Hi,
WOW! Nice! :D Will sure want to try to take those during the Chinese New Year holiday.

Anyway, you can take and applied flat frames and it should remove the vignetting, but not the sky gradient.

Have a nice day.

Hi,

Here is the tested picture of the above picture using Russell Croman's Gradient Xterminator recommend by Meng Lee.

I think the software is quite nice. I think it looks definitely better.

But I've over processed in CS3. So picture looks a bit dark & noisy. :P
