Saturn From 21 April 2010

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Saturn From 21 April 2010

Post by cataclysm »

Hi all, its been quite a while since I last fiddle with my imaging gears, felt a bit 'rusty', took forever to set up...lol...

This image was taken on a hazy night with very high humidity, its very dim and the colours look muted. Again it was captured with DMK21 mono cam and Tak Mewlon 210 at approx f/35.

Image

Below is more interesting perspective. This 'wide-field' view is quite akin to high power view through an eyepiece. Imaged at approx. f/20, the larger sensor of DMK41 was just able to cover the field, it managed to bag 4 of the 5 major moons. (sadly Enceladus was behind the parent planet when it was taken)

Hi,
Beautiful!! [smilie=admire2.gif]

Titan seem to be elongated?? Did titan move faster than other Moons??

Have a nice day.

Very nice shots!

Can still make out the Cassini division even at the acute angle of the rings.

The wide field gives a really good sense of scale.

Try Jupiter too! It seems to have lost its SEB completely. I've imaged it a few times recently just before dawn but so far not too good results.

Hi Weixing, Titan has a much slower apparent motion than the inner Moons, the imaging duration only spans over minutes, should not detect any movement. The egg shape Titan is probably caused by the optical flaw from the scope. Mewlon (a Dall-Kirkham design) like most cassegrian optical systems, suffers from field curvature and coma, ok for webcam size sensors, but the errors are more apparent near the edge of larger sensors. :(

Very nice kelvin ... cassini ring can be discerned from offset of main ring.
