one lame ques. from a newbie

Post by fiona_ »

was walking home today and as usual was strolling with my head up towards the heavens , marvelling at the clear skies tonight when i saw a familiar pattern of 4 stars ( in a diamond shape )that seemed to look like the southern cross. actually this isnt the first time that i've seen it but i forgot about it till today. i admit , i'm totally handicapped w/o a star map on hand ! Can anybody confirm my suspicions ? Also , what are the usual suspects of constellations that can be seen by the naked eye in our skies apart from Orion ?

Hi,

Other constellations such as Scorpius, Centaurus, Canis Major, Ursa Major (Big Dipper part), Lyra, Cygnus and Cassiopeia are easily recognizable from Singapore.

If you did not mistaken the false cross as the crux, then it should be correct.
The Crux is smaller than the false cross and is usually more prominent than it.

  Hmmm.... from wat I think it is the false cross. The star of tis asterism seems to be of equal brightness. Whereas for crux one of the star is dimmer. 8)
