Astro Night @ Elias Park Primary School on Thu 27th May 2010

Post by Lee »

EPPS celebrated the 400th anniversary of the first astronomical observation through a telescope by Galileo in 2009 through the Astro Night. This year, EPPS will continue to celebrate achievements in Science and aslo arouse interest in Science amongst the pupils by holding the Astro Night.

Date: Thu, 27.5.2010 (last day of school holiday)
Time: 7.00pm - 9.30pm
Venue: Elias Park Primary School (5min from White Sand MRT)

Activites:
- Viewing of planets via powerful telescopes
- A Science quiz to test your knowledge
- Viewing of exhibits on Science
- Colouring of pictures on Science
- Cheering competition
- Talk on Astronomy

A big Thank You! to those who help out last year. As for this year it will be of a smaller scale without the time constraint of last year Astro Challenge.

I'm requesting volunteers for the following :-

1. Volunteers with 3-5” tracking scope for VENUS & MOON observation
2. Volunteers with 5-8” tracking scope for SATURN observation
3. Volunteers with > 8” tracking scope for MARS observation
4. Conduct 45 min Astro Talk on any interesting topics

(apologize, volunteers will have to make their own logistics arrangement)

Those who can help please contact me at HP: 96192273 or email me at leewk@tps.sg or PM. I need to gather all details by this Sunday for submission to the school on Monday.

Thank you.
Wee Kiong

P.S.
I may be also setting up a booth selling very low cost Astro-related stuff to the kids & maybe their parent. If any of you have appropriate Astro-related stuff which you think the visitors may have an interest and want to get rid off at low cost (less than S$10) please contact me with detail of items and selling price. You will have to deliver/collect back the stuff to my place in Pasir Ris.

Hi Wee Kiong,

Is this session only open to the School's students/parent/alumni only? Are members of the public allowed to attend this event? What time does the observation start in proper?

Yes, rightfully only for the students & their parents only.
It's a scale down version of last year and we still expect some queue; probably not more than a minute for each viewer. It will be just in front of the school gate carpark area. There will be lights & school building height constraint. 7.30-9.30pm. Probably viewing the Full Moon & Saturn only, weather permittting.
