Jupiter 26 Aug 2010

Post by cataclysm »

This was one of those rare nights where excellent seeing and good transparency comes toghther. Collected a fair bit of very good data on Jupiter, if not was the best I got so far, Jupiter really stays so still on the monitor while the camera was recording it.

Takahashi Mewlon 210, 3x Televue Barlow, DMK21 mono cam.

Beautiful! Jupiter has been good...in fact it's the time when it's closest to us!
Though it has been raining, on nights when it doesn't it's really clear!

Thanks for sharing!!
My wife never complained about how much time, effort & money I spent on my Astronomy hobby!................suddenly I met her!!!

Nice! Anything can be done for the light fall-off at the edges?
[80% Steve, 20% Alfred] ------- Probability of Clear Skies = (Age of newest equipment in days) / [(Number of observers) * (Total Aperture of all telescopes present in mm)]

that's not light fall-off... but that jupiter's disk is not fully illuminated.

Hi Andrew, some Photoshop tweaking can bring out the edges, but I trying to leave it as 'natural' as possible. Some limb darkening is normal, the planet will look more globe like, rather than disc like when an even surface illumination is presented. :)

I took a widefield shot too. This was with the larger 1/2 inch sensor at prime focus. Only bag 3 Moons this time, Europa had transited behind Jupiter while this was taken.
