M42 (not again!)

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

M42 (not again!)

Post by rcj »

Hey guys,

Sorry for posting just about the most often taken nebula ever! It is the first time though taken with the new ccd camera on the AP via all the RGB filters. This one was taken with data originating from Kahang and the recent Tioman sites, with HA taken from Singapore. Did not really take much short exposures to satisfy core details at this point in time, too busy trying to take enough long subs for each filter! This is a quick-processed overall image to see what's cooking.

So far, since CNY, i think we have been blessed with a spate of decent skies, looks like 2011 is already better than 2010, and may every imager continue to take these opportunities to soak their cameras with plentiful photons!

thanks wu! it does give the nebula more contrast but kinda defeats the purpose of going long exposures to see more of the outer faint regions. the core region is also desaturated of colour. it may be recommended to do a duplicate layer on core region, set mode to colour and do contrast curving to reduce core intensity.... but find that sometimes it will still look more natural to layer proper short exposures in... good effort too!

hopefully can get short exposures data this friday in punggai

another version, with the core details added from previous TOA data. Also flipped the orientation.
