Observation at Jurong West tonight @8.30 pm

Post by Gary »

Hi Friends. James is organising an observation tonight at Jurong West Street 42 Block 407.

Please refer to the spot marked "A" in the google map below:
http://goo.gl/h7CkK

Potential scopes that can be deployed

- Takahashi Mewlon 250
- Celestron C14
- Celestron Nexstar 6SE
- Meade 8" SCT

A WO binoviewer will be there to test on all the above scopes.

All are welcomed with or without scope. Moon will only rise around 11 pm tonight to "disturb" our view.

A few newcomers may be coming. James has lots of experience with many scopes over the years. Newcomers should come and pick his brains for advise as to what scope is suitable for them. Or just simply enjoy the company of like-minded astro enthusiasts.

For those who are coming with scopes, please feel free to update this thread what scope you will be bringing.

I will be there mainly to make use of a free tracking mount to collimate my scope further. :)

IF (a very big IF) the sky is really good to tempt me to stay after the last bus/mrt, I will take a cab from Jurong West to Toa Payoh. For those who are attending, if your place is along the way, I can drop you along the way. Should be useful for potential cash and carry buyers tonight. :)

Saturn is a good target tonight to test the planetary capabilities of these scopes.

Please note this event is weather permitting only. Please refer to this thread for the latest updates.

Dancing with the Mewlon. Coming to Toa Payoh soon. :)

Thanks to James for organising the event. Admire his generosity to show newbies like us the working of EQ mounts and of course the wonderful Mewlon 250.

Hi HJ. Feel free to join us again when we have another observation session there. If you are taking public transport, you can take Bus 334 at Jurong East Bus Interchange and alight at the bus stop beside block 402. James showed us a nice huge open field a few blocks away which looks promisingly dark.

Gary is right....
There's a big football field around the other corner , which is quite dark.

And already at my side, we can see the big dipper, so over there maybe we can see more stars, perhaps we can try M51?????
