Uncooled and cooled darks of 500D

Thanks for sharing Shirox...It got me thinking, does this mean in colder countries where the temp can drop lower than 15 deg, noise level becomes a non-issue for DSLR on long exposures?

Yes bro! and the cooled light frames even if not calibrated with darks and flats looks fantastic as well!!!! I'm starting to love my camera!!!!!

Hi bro,

Yes i believe so. In colder countries where its like 0 degree ambient or lower i believe they dun need the cooling function.
But i'm guessing most people will be more active during the summer time, due to more things to capture and also its the summer holidays.

Oh yeah! Subject to this mod 5DmarkII will be a potent astrocam, it's full frame sensor already a winner, always at the back of my head to acquire & mod this cam, if only I can stomach the price.
One caveat on the chill box application, although it may be a more camera friendly non 'non-invasive' mod, the whole setup will be quite hefty, you really need a beefy focuser, else flexure is a real issue.

Mod service for a 5D Mk2 costs around USD1900. The moded version is just like adding a battery pack, without compromising any functions except LiveVIEW. The more attractive part is that the cooling temp is ambient tempe - 28!

Yes one-shot colour astro ccd is really attainable at such competitive price these days. But having the first hand experience on my own modified Canon cam, I still like the self-contain , stand alone features of a dslr, and especially when you have already amassed an assorted lenses. This is especially important when you need to travel light to wayward places and you love widefield imaging.
Below is a good example on the convenience of a modified DSLR that some of you may had seen it on earlier Mersing tread. The setup is simple, 50mm lens with modified 350D on GPD mount, tracked but not guided:
