minus violet filter a must?

Post by Traveler »

Hi guys,
I read that a minus violet filter on a telephoto lens will sharpen the image by reducing the chromatic aberration around bright stars. I'm wondering will there be any much difference when using an APO telephoto lens?

the minus violet filter is pretty much a gimmick. it's just a yellow filter, main purpose is to remove the purple fringing. but after removing the purple fringing the images do look a little bit better.

an apo is one that is design to have no chromatic aberration, thus all the minus violet filter does is make the image look yellow, nothing else.
