What do you guys use for dew control?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

What do you guys use for dew control?

Post by mandaragit »

Just wanted to ask what you guys are using for dew control? I just got my first scope with a dew shield but will this be enough? Any suggestions or opinions will be greatly appreciated...

BTW my cousin will be going to the US and I'm really planning on getting this:

http://www.dewbuster.com

a bit expensive but based on the reviews it's built like a tank that will last for a long time and very hassle free, any thoughts?

it really depends on ambient temperature, dew point of the place you are observing....

What scope are you using?
With refractors I find you sometimes need active dew control whereas with an open tube Cassegrain (VMC200L) it never needs any form of dew control.
For my 'frac/Mak I use an Astrozap dew sheild. So far it lasts at least 3 hours (the longest session I've had) in light mist

Hi, you can use heat packs. They are available at winter stores. Works great. Daiso sells them at $2 for a pack of few as well.

Last time i checked, Guardian sells heatpack as well. Just buy 1-2 and keep it inside your bag. Most refractors don't really see a need for heatpack/dewheaters.

I dabbled with electronic dew heaters but they are a real hassle compared to the ease and economy of heat packs.
