Dear Astronomy Friends,

You are cordially invited to join the lunar eclipse celebrations at ONE FULLERTON (bay area). There will be a total lunar eclipse right here in Singapore and it will occur during the evening of 10th December 2011 (Saturday). Feel free to bring your telescopes, family (young and seniors!), friends, et cetera.

Date | Time : 10 Dec 2011, 8PM onwards

Location: Bay pavement perimeter grounds alongside One Fullerton Building

Looking forward to meeting everyone in the local astronomy community!

Registrations (if you are bringing a telescope) : remuscj at gmail dot com

If the weather is kind to us, you will be rewarded with a spectacular vista! Below was a picture from our site recce ( with Michael, Carol & Remus ) on last full Moon. The eclipse will start when the Moon is about that elevation, will be quite a sight.

Great recce of the site, Eclipse Crew!

Let's try not to miss this one. I think the total lunar eclipse in June this year was missed by a lot of people in Singapore (me included) due to the heavy cloud cover then.

According to S&T magazine (Dec 2011 issue), Southeast Asia would be in the "entire eclipse visible" zone (i.e. from start to finish), together with all of East Asia and Australia during next month's eclipse. It would also be the last total lunar eclipse (worldwide) until April 2014; this is confirmed here: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/lunar.html

just a quick update on this event:

Would welcome more volunteers (either in helping out, or bringing a telescope for the event). The organizing crew has managed to persuade the Fullerton management to give us complimentary parking at One Fullerton building itself. If you are driving and bringing a telescope, it is very convenient to just take the lift from the carpark up to the ground level. On that day itself, there will be volunteers that can be stationed to help the owners out as well.

We are also planning to give refreshments (only) to the volunteers since the event will last the entire evening.

At this time, Fullerton will be contacting the various media on publicity for this event. If successful, one can expect the turn-out to be in the order of several hundreds. After doing several recees and meetings, the pavement stretch facing MBS is very picturesque, and the eclipsed moon with the backdrop of MBS will make a very nice postcard quality image! There's also Jupiter to look out for, with GRS transiting happening in the later part of the evening.

Fullerton will also be providing us with appropriate yellow metal barricades to facilitate crowd control and movement.

There will also be a roof-top viewing area on top of One Fullerton, however, it is restricted only for Fullerton's hotel guests, but the crew managed to extend the entry to all volunteers, and members of the astronomy community in SINGASTRO.

That's about all for now! Hope to see more volunteers coming forth to help out. Am sure it is going to be an enjoyable evening night out with everyone and friends!
