Re: Skysafari for Android - Free Beta till 31st Dec
I've been using the iPad version for some time with a SkyWire connected to my CGEM.
Works great.
I'm excited about the Android version because Android allows 3rd-party apps to access the Bluetooth stack. iOS does not.
Hence if you have a Bluetooth serial adapter on your scope, you can control it remotely without the need for the (pricey) SkyFi or the (pricey for a cable) SkyWire. More interesting for me, I have encoders on my antique mount and a Lumicon Sky Vector. I ordered a Bluetooth serial card which I'll hack into the Sky Vector, and.. et voila. Bluetooth DSC to Android.

You have 10 more days to use it before it expires. Then you have to pay for it, 3 version for you to chose from, the US$15/- version looks good enough.Gary wrote:Thanks for the info. Just installed it. Good stuff. Lots of potential. Telrad!!

Keeps crashing on my Sensation though when I try to zoom in. Hope it gets more stable or it might not be with it.
Yup, I think the plus version is good enough. After all, not many people get to see more than Mag12 stars in local skies
